2.1 General Eligibility

Applicants must be at least 16 years of age and possess the minimum educational qualifications as specified by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and AOU admission policies.

2.2 Academic Requirements

• Minimum of five (5) O-Level credits including English Language and Mathematics
• Credits must be obtained in not more than two (2) sittings
• Direct Entry applicants must have completed previous qualifications
• Candidates with "degree in view" are not eligible for admission

2.3 Document Authenticity

All submitted documents must be authentic and verifiable. Submission of forged or altered documents constitutes a criminal offense under Nigerian law and will result in immediate disqualification, reporting to law enforcement, and permanent ban from AOU.

3.1 Application Submission

Applications are submitted electronically through our secure portal. Once submitted, applications cannot be withdrawn, though applicants may update information before final processing upon request.

3.2 Application Fees

Application fees are non-refundable once payment is processed. Fees are subject to change and will be clearly communicated before payment. All fees are quoted in Nigerian Naira (₦).

3.3 Processing Time

Applications are typically processed within 4-6 weeks. Processing times may vary during peak admission periods. AOU is not liable for delays beyond our reasonable control.

4.1 Data Collection and Purpose

In accordance with the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) 2019, we collect and process your personal data solely for:

• Processing and evaluating your admission application
• Verifying the authenticity of submitted documents
• Communication regarding your application status
• Maintaining student records if admitted
• Compliance with regulatory and legal requirements

4.2 Data Subject Rights

Under the NDPR, you have the right to:

• Access your personal data we hold
• Request correction of inaccurate information
• Request deletion of your data (subject to legal retention requirements)
• Object to processing of your data for direct marketing
• Lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Bureau (NDPB)

4.3 Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect your personal data against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. All data is encrypted during transmission and storage.

4.4 Data Retention

Application data is retained for a minimum of 7 years as required by Nigerian education regulations. Unsuccessful applications may be retained for future admission cycles unless deletion is requested.

4.5 Third-Party Disclosure

We do not sell, trade, or transfer your personal data to third parties except:

• With your explicit consent
• To regulatory bodies (NUC, JAMB, NDPB) as required by law
• To service providers under strict confidentiality agreements
• When legally required by Nigerian courts or law enforcement

5.1 Decision Authority

AOU reserves the sole right to make admission decisions based on academic merit, available space, and institutional requirements. Admission is competitive and not guaranteed by application alone.

5.2 Appeal Process

Applicants may appeal rejection decisions within 14 days by submitting a written appeal to info@aouniversity.edu.ng. Appeals are reviewed by a separate committee, and decisions are final.

5.3 Conditional Admission

Conditional admission offers are valid for the specified academic session only and may be revoked if conditions are not met by the stated deadline.

8.1 Tuition and Fees

Admitted students must pay tuition and fees as specified in the admission letter. Fees are subject to annual review and may increase with notice.

8.2 Payment Terms

Payment deadlines are strictly enforced. Late payments may result in late fees, registration blocks, or dismissal from the university.

8.3 Refund Policy

Tuition refunds are subject to the university's published refund policy, which varies based on withdrawal timing and circumstances.

9.1 Service Availability

While we strive for continuous availability, the application portal may experience downtime for maintenance or technical issues. We are not liable for temporary unavailability or data loss due to technical failures beyond our control.

9.2 Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by Nigerian law, AOU shall not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the application portal or admission services.

10.1 Applicable Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of Nigerian courts.

10.2 Dispute Resolution

In the event of disputes, parties agree to first attempt resolution through good faith negotiation. If unsuccessful, disputes may be referred to mediation before pursuing litigation in Nigerian courts.

13.1 Credit Transfer Evaluation

Transfer credit evaluation is conducted by the Academic Board and is based on course equivalency, accreditation status of the previous institution, and grade requirements. AOU reserves the right to accept or reject transfer credits at its sole discretion.

13.2 Maximum Transfer Credits

The maximum number of transferable credits varies by program and credential type:

• NCE/ND holders: Up to 30 credits
• HND (Lower Credit): Up to 45 credits
• HND (Higher Credit): Up to 60 credits
• Professional Certifications: Up to 45 credits (subject to evaluation)
• Bachelor's Degree holders: Case-by-case evaluation

13.3 Minimum Residency Requirement

Regardless of transfer credits, all students must complete a minimum of 60 credits (approximately 50% of the program) at AOU to qualify for graduation. This ensures quality assurance and compliance with NUC requirements.

13.4 Program Duration

Standard bachelor's degree programs are designed for completion in 3-4 years of full-time study, or 5-6 years part-time. Students with transfer credits may complete programs earlier. Maximum time to degree completion is 8 years from initial enrollment.

14.1 Prohibited Conduct

The following constitute academic misconduct:

• Submission of falsified or forged documents (certificates, transcripts, IDs)
• Plagiarism in Statement of Purpose or other application materials
• Impersonation or proxy application submission
• Bribery or attempted bribery of university officials
• Multiple applications under different names or identities
• Hacking or unauthorized access to application systems

14.2 Consequences

Academic misconduct will result in immediate application rejection, permanent ban from AOU admission, reporting to the National Universities Commission (NUC), JAMB, and potentially criminal prosecution under Nigerian law including the Criminal Code Act Cap C38 LFN 2004.

14.3 Document Verification

AOU employs AI-powered document verification systems and manual reviews to detect forged documents. We also conduct verification with issuing institutions including WAEC, NECO, NABTEB, and previous universities. Verification may take 2-4 weeks.

15.1 Applicant Rights

All applicants have the right to:

• Fair and unbiased evaluation of applications
• Timely communication regarding application status
• Privacy and confidentiality of personal information (under NDPR)
• Access to application records upon request
• Appeal admission decisions through established procedures
• Reasonable accommodations for disabilities

15.2 Applicant Responsibilities

All applicants must:

• Provide complete, accurate, and truthful information
• Submit all required documents by specified deadlines
• Respond promptly to university communications
• Maintain a valid email address and check it regularly
• Notify AOU immediately of any changes to contact information
• Accept admission offers by specified deadlines
• Pay required fees on time

16.1 Account Security

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your application credentials (Application ID and email). Do not share credentials with third parties. AOU is not liable for unauthorized access resulting from credential sharing.

16.2 Prohibited Activities

Users must not:

• Attempt to circumvent security measures or access restrictions
• Use automated systems (bots, scrapers) to access the portal
• Upload malicious files or code
• Overload or disrupt portal systems
• Reverse engineer or decompile portal software
• Use the portal for any illegal purpose

16.3 System Requirements

The portal is optimized for modern browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge). Users are responsible for ensuring compatible devices and internet connectivity. Mobile applications are not officially supported at this time.

17.1 International Students

International applicants must provide equivalent qualifications evaluated by approved credential evaluation services. Additional documentation including passport copies, visa information, and English proficiency tests may be required.

17.2 Mature Students (Age 21+)

Applicants aged 21 or above without formal O-Level qualifications may be considered through alternative pathways including work experience evaluation, entrance examinations, and portfolio reviews, subject to Senate approval.

17.3 Students with Disabilities

AOU is committed to inclusive education. Applicants with disabilities should indicate their needs during application. Reasonable accommodations will be provided in compliance with the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act 2018.

18.1 Admission Offer Validity

Admission offers are valid for the academic session specified in the admission letter only. Offers cannot be deferred to future sessions without formal deferment approval, which is granted on a case-by-case basis for compelling reasons only.

18.2 Registration Deadline

Admitted students must complete registration (including fee payment and document submission) by the deadline specified in the admission letter. Failure to register by the deadline results in automatic forfeiture of admission.

18.3 Medical Requirements

All admitted students must submit a completed medical fitness certificate from a licensed physician before final enrollment. Certain programs may have specific health requirements.

18.4 Orientation Attendance

Attendance at the mandatory New Student Orientation program is required for all first-year and transfer students. Failure to attend may delay enrollment or course registration.

19.1 Official Communication Channels

All official communications will be sent via email to the address provided during application. SMS notifications may also be sent to the registered phone number. It is the applicant's responsibility to monitor these channels regularly.

19.2 Notification Timing

AOU will notify applicants of application status changes within 2 business days via email. Critical notifications (admission offers, payment deadlines) will be sent via both email and SMS where possible.

19.3 Undeliverable Communications

AOU is not responsible if communications are undeliverable due to incorrect contact information, full mailboxes, spam filters, or network issues. Applicants should check spam/junk folders regularly and whitelist info@aouniversity.edu.ng.

20.1 Voluntary Withdrawal

Applicants may withdraw their application at any time by submitting a written request to info@aouniversity.edu.ng. Application fees are non-refundable upon withdrawal.

20.2 University-Initiated Cancellation

AOU reserves the right to cancel applications for reasons including: submission of false information, failure to submit required documents after reminders, misconduct during the application process, or failure to meet minimum requirements.

20.3 Declining Admission Offers

If you receive an admission offer but choose not to enroll, you must formally decline the offer in writing within 14 days. This allows the university to offer the position to waitlisted candidates.

22.1 Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unlawful, void, or unenforceable by a Nigerian court, that provision shall be deemed severable and shall not affect the validity and enforceability of the remaining provisions.

22.2 Waiver

Failure by AOU to enforce any right or provision in these Terms shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision unless acknowledged and agreed to in writing by an authorized AOU representative.
